Renewable power for London

Renewable power for London is one of the themes our collaborative Climate Programme covers. Its goal is to maximise local innovative energy and heat generation and storage projects and to support the development of a net zero energy plan for London.

Over the next two years the programme will work closely with the GLA to roll out Local Area Energy Planning, identify the decentralised energy assets London needs to achieve net zero, and work with commercial partners, central government and other stakeholders to realise delivery of that network, including through development of the necessary resources and capabilities.

Renewable power for London will support public sector bodies to increase their procurement of renewable energy by developing a model for collective Power Purchase Agreements that can be replicated by groups of boroughs, supporting the decarbonisation of the grid, reducing costs and enabling boroughs to reach their own net zero goals. It will work with GLA and others to review London’s energy advice services to ensure they are supporting residents to access renewable power effectively while reducing energy costs and contributing to decarbonisation.

The lead borough for Renewable power for London is Barnet.

Our two-year implementation plan identified key deliverables for 2023-24 and assessed the resource requirements to deliver this first phase of implementation and build a sustainable longer-term programme of work.

Renewable power for London Action Plan

The purpose of this action plan is to set a pathway to achieve the ambition set out in London Councils' Joint Statement on Climate Change.

This plan is designed to support all boroughs to achieve the headline ambition, whilst recognising that requirements and resourcing will vary from borough to borough.
