Event: Tackling Knife related violence - Workshop series

London Ventures: Knife-Related Violence Workshop Series

Following the London Ventures ‘Tackling Knife-Related Violence: Now and in Future’ event on June 4th, the programme will be hosting three free virtual workshops to enable collaboration and explore the opportunities new technologies can offer.

Please note that we have limited capacity from this session, so will be limiting attendance to max 2 representatives per organisation, with priority granted to local authority attendees for these initial workshops. Note that Workshop 1 will shape the content for Workshops 2 and 3, so we would recommend a representative from your organisation to attend – we advise those with a strategic lens to attend Workshop 1, and operational roles interested in the detail of implementation to attend Workshops 2 and 3:

Workshop 1: Exploring the strategic context

23rd July, 10am-12pm

Aim: Discuss the challenges faced in the sector and how technology could form part of the solutions.

This session will provide a forum for an open discussion on the strategic context of knife crime: discussing challenges faced at a borough and pan-London level, and best practice in tackling these.

With support from technology experts in the room, attendees will be able to collectively explore new solutions to these challenges, harnessing the power of innovative technologies such as artificial intelligence, data analytics, robotics, and virtual reality.

Workshop 2: Harnessing the power of data analytics

30th July, 10am-12pm

Aim: Explore a collaborative approach to design and pilot a solution to identify those at risk

In this workshop, Wajid Shafiq from Xantura and attendees will discuss how data analytics can tackle the challenges raised in Workshop 1; pulling in multi-agency data to identify individuals at risk, shaping Community Safety policy, and better targeting of resources through a more informed view of those at risk from violence against person.

There will be an opportunity to explore the scope for a regional collaborative pilot, shaping the core services Xantura have designed to ensure a solution that is fit for purpose and of benefit to your locality.

Workshop 3: Harnessing the power of behavioural change

6th August, 10am-12pm

Aim: Explore a collaborative approach to implement technology led behavioural change interventions

In this workshop, Helen Costa, the founder of Cornerstone, will lead the discussion around how innovative technologies, such as virtual reality, can tackle the challenges raised in Workshop 1: by creating effective interventions to enable behavioural change; intervening early to prevent knife crime occurring; and creating empathy and understanding in those who work with young people about how and why they might become involved in knife crime.

There will be opportunity to hear the projects currently being explored in London, and to discuss how these behavioural change technologies could be shaped to work in your borough and/ or across boroughs.

Outputs of these workshops

Outputs of each of these workshops will be shared with relevant agencies including all London Heads of Community Safety, the Violence Reduction Unit, MOPAC, and third sector bodies to enable collaboration and ensure solutions are fit for all.
