If you believe you fulfil the eligible criteria and are entitled to a Freedom Pass, you need to contact your borough for an application form. You can find a list of boroughs, their websites and their telephone numbers at the bottom of this page.

Once your borough has assessed and confirmed your eligibility they will send you a letter of authorisation. You will need to take this letter to the Post Office unless you live in one of the following boroughs, in which case your borough will process your application.

  • Barking & Dagenham
  • Camden
  • Kensington & Chelsea
  • Sutton

When you go to the Post Office remember to take with you:

  • A passport sized photograph
  • Your letter of authorisation from your borough
  • Proof of identity and
  • Proof of address

More information about what is needed for proof of identity, address and photograph

Please note that you must go to the Post Office in person, you cannot send someone to apply on your behalf unless they hold power of attorney.

Tracking your application

Once you have applied for your Freedom Pass you will be able to track its progress online. Please leave 2-3 working days from when you submit your application before trying to track it.

Cards are sent out by second class post. If the online tracker shows that your card has been dispatched, it may take a week to reach you in the post. If you still haven’t received it after this time please contact the Freedom Pass helpline on 0300 330 1433 and we will cancel the pass and issue you with a replacement.
