Our statement on the National Funding Formula consultation

The government are seeking views on proposals for a national funding formula to make the distribution of schools funding fairer.

Cllr Peter John OBE, London Councils’ Executive member for children, skills and employment, said:

Cllr Peter John

“It is essential that we get this right – no child should be disadvantaged by school funding reforms. Therefore we will be responding to the government’s consultation on the basis that there should be a levelling up of schools funding across the country. By providing extra investment the government would be giving all schools the tools to be able to match London’s best performing schools.

“The new funding formula must recognise that demand for school places is increasing in London, costs are higher, teacher recruitment and retention is a big challenge and there are skills shortages in key industries such as construction and IT.”

The online response form for the consultation on the schools national funding formula is available on the Department for Education website.
