When you receive your new style pass, you can use immediately. You should destroy the old pass once you know the new one works.

Freedom Pass is provided by your local borough councils to give older and disabled Londoners free travel on almost all public transport in London.
If you have received a reminder letter but have already applied to renew your pass, please ignore the reminder as your application is being processed. There is no need to reapply.
Have you got your photograph ready? Check that your photograph meets the standard required for your new Freedom Pass.
