LEPT attends annual Polis conference in Manchester

  • By Héloïse Thibault

Last week, the annual Polis conference took place at Old Trafford stadium in Manchester. For two days, 550 participants attended sessions on themes as varied as smart procurement, bike sharing, SUMPs or data-driven decision making. The two main sessions focused on citizen inclusion in transport and sustainable planning. They gave voice to transport managers, charity representatives, city authorities, urban consultancies and private companies.

Liz Brooker, from Lewisham, represented London boroughs by chairing a session on pedestrians and cyclist’s safety where academics discussed with practitioners on how to improve safety for vulnerable road users. Transport for London was present through multiple sessions, on accessible street design, air quality or infrastructure projects. London Councils was represented by Andrew Luck who discussed the positive parking agenda in London in a session chaired by Elisabeth Herles from the European Parking Association. In addition to the opening and closing conferences, LEPT attended various parallel sessions amongst which:

  • Designing accessible and shared streets for people
  • Measuring vehicle emissions and improving air quality
  • Changing behaviour
  • The role of data in supporting better transport planning, service delivery and performance assessment
  • Positive parking agenda

All presentations from the sessions are available here. Anyone interested in a summary of these or on receiving more information on the event can contact Héloïse Thibault.
