Sustrans sets out recommendations for the National Cycle Network

  • By Héloïse Thibault

The National Cycle Network has expanded throughout the UK since the late 1970s, with major bits passing through London. Sustrans, the charity that led its development, has undertaken a review of the service to provide local authorities with recommendations as too how to improve it.

Some of the priorities Sustrans lays out for the network are to improve its safety, signage, provided open data as well as promoting it to new users. These are in line with the EU’s and the Mayor’s transport strategy. The importance of mix funding is also underlined, amongst which EU opportunities could be of relevance, for example the MG-4-5-2019 call on an inclusive digital transport system.
