London Councils with Continuum, University of East London and the London Borough of Newham have been collaborating for the past five years to examine the higher education journey of young London residents. The launch of this fifth annual research report will highlight changes in participation, attainment and progression to the London labour market at London and local authority level.

This year, the report focuses on the impact of higher education on social mobility. The report has revealed this year that for the first time the number of London students in higher education whose parents did not go to university has overtaken those whose parents did go to university.

We would like to acknowledge the work of Professor John Storan and Gary Tindell from the University of East London and Sheila Weeden from the London Borough of Newham for their continued contributions to this enduring research partnership.
