Special Educational Needs and Disabilities

  • By admin

From September 2014, reforms have come into place which advise local authorities, maintained schools, early education setting and others on carrying out statutory duties for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)

The Young People’s Education and Skills team supports collaborative planning for transition into adulthood and is working with London's SEND Pathfinders to share emerging practice.

The SEND London Projects (PDF) (2 pp, 112 K) have been set up to support London’s local authorities with implementing the reforms and to identify regional and sub-regional opportunities for improvements and efficiencies in services. The projects are focusing on:

  • curriculum development (14 to 25)
  • commissioning for outcomes
  • cross-organisational workforce development
  • joint commissioning.

The team also works with the Local Government Association, the Department for Education and a range of other strategic partners to ensure the interests of London local government are represented and served.
