During our work on temporary accommodation, homelessness and housing issues, we have met many innovative and passionate organisations offering amazing ideas to support vulnerable people. Would you like to...

ComradeBnB creates high quality emergency accommodation, with specialist modular bedrooms that can be deployed quickly. The company can transform idle sites (brownfields, redundant light industrial, or carparks), into safe, affordable accommodation as a meanwhile use, for example for five years while the area larger planned changes are approved. The scale of buildings and the facilities required can be tailored for each site, from 20 to 100 rooms.

A new supply of secure accommodation is crucial to preventing homelessness. New projects can be operating within just six months, delivering best-in-class build quality and facilities. ComradeBnB can work with local authorities as an innovative partnership, to improve standards, reduce local housing pressures, and substantially reduce costs. Fat Macy’s provides young people in temporary accommodation a path towards independent living by inviting them to create and curate pop-up events across London. Londoners in temporary accommodation find it increasingly challenging to save money and move into more permanent homes. Fat Macy’s provides employability training, and offers a housing deposit to Fat Macy’s participants after they have volunteered for 150 hours.

Homestead is an app which allows the public to pay for food, shelter and clothes in a matter of taps. Collaborating with a number of charities, the app provides information on the nearest shelter to you, allows easy donation to local shelters, and gives updates on how your donations are used. The app is currently focused on London, but will be expanding to other cities.

Settle supports young people leaving care or who are otherwise vulnerable. These groups are at particularly high risk of homelessness, 25% of all homeless people grew up in care. Settle helps young people sustain their tenancies with a mentoring programme, delivered by accredited coaches. The one to one coaching provides young people with the skills and confidence they need to live independently, reducing their need for support from local authorities.

RentSquare’s mission is to maximise the efficiency of housing supply, empowering tenants with choice, through an honest, transparent and affordable service. They use technology to reduce the time properties sit empty, maximise institutional return and ensure these benefits are passed onto tenants. RentSquare has found a way to reduce void periods and pass those savings onto tenants. They have built a Machine Learning algorithm, that predicts affordable rent prices and use technology to let properties quickly.
