London Councils' response to announcements on Universal Credit in the Autumn Budget 2017.
Cllr Claire Kober OBE, Chair of London Councils, said:
“We are pleased that the government has started to listen to our concerns about the impact of Universal Credit. Those parts of London that already have Universal Credit have found that it currently increases the financial insecurity of claimants and local authorities alike.
“The abolition of the seven day waiting period and the introduction of a Housing Benefit run-on are a significant step forward in restoring public trust in Universal Credit and ensuring it works for all. However a number of problems remain and we hope that the Government continues to work with us to address these.”
