Cllr Peter John OBE, Deputy Chair of London Councils and Executive member with responsibility for schools, said:
“I would like to wish all young people in London receiving their A Level results today the best of luck as they begin their journey towards a successful future. Whatever their results, young people should have the freedom to choose the path best suited to them.
“Apprenticeships provide young people with accredited training alongside work and are an increasingly well-regarded choice for school leavers. London offers many good quality apprenticeships in a range of industries, including finance and construction.
“But until the capital skills system is fundamentally transformed, many young people in London will not have access to relevant careers advice or understand the full range of work and training options available to them.
“With Brexit on the horizon, London urgently needs a skills devolution deal that will give boroughs and the Mayor more control over the skills system to empower young people at this critical time.”
