Cllr Julian Bell, Chair of London Councils’ Transport and Environment Committee, said:
“Air quality is a national health emergency and this plan does not go far enough. In fact, it only commits the government to investigate issues further rather than providing detail of its proposed actions.
London’s local authorities have been doing excellent work tackling air pollution for years but this plan places additional burdens on them, when they are already struggling with stretched resources. Air pollution does not respect administrative boundaries, which means organisations need to work together to deal with this issue.
Local authorities are playing their part; it’s now time Government stepped up to the plate.”
