Commenting on the IPPR's report on childcare in London, Cllr Peter John OBE, Deputy Chair of London Councils and Executive member for Business, Skills and Brexit, said:
“Exploring how we can make childcare work better for parents and carers across the capital is vital. London’s economy is thriving and nobody should be held back from getting a job due to a lack of affordable and accessible childcare.
“But as the IPPR’s report shows, our childcare market is complex and is facing huge challenges, including huge pressure on places and costs which are not being met by Government.
“Boroughs have an important role to play in shaping local services that truly benefit their residents, particularly in more deprived areas. The IPPR’s research on childcare in London raises some important issues and we will be looking at these closely.”
