London Councils has launched an informative new video to help businesses and Londoners plan for flooding.
Recent heavy rain has caused flooding in parts of London and across the UK, reinforcing the importance of being prepared.
Latest statistics show that 600,000 homes and 74,000 businesses across the capital are at some level of risk of surface water flooding. Flooding caused by rivers and the sea could affect 465,000 homes and 65,000 businesses in London.
Cllr Julian Bell, Chair of London Councils’ Transport and Environment Committee, said:
“Flooding is a significant risk in many parts of London. Boroughs are working with the Environment Agency and Thames Water to maintain flood defences across the capital and invest in a range of new measures over the next decade, but sometimes this is not enough, particularly in extreme weather conditions.
“Our new video shows Londoners how to find out if they live or work in a flood-prone area, as well as offering advice on how best to plan for flooding. Simple steps, such as registering for flood alerts, deciding to park your car on higher ground or ensuring your insurance covers flood damage, will help to reduce damage and disruption caused by flooding.”
The video is available to watch and share with others via the London Councils website.
