London Taxicard provides subsidised transport in taxis and private-hire vehicles for people who have serious mobility or visual impairment


How can I apply for the scheme?

You need to request an application form. The application you will receive will depend on the London Borough in which you live, please contact London Councils on 0845 415 4156 or 020 7934 9791 for details.

How long will it take to apply?

It will usually take up to 4-6 weeks for the application process.

Will I be automatically eligible if I have a Blue Badge?

Having a Blue Badge will not make you automatically eligible.

Are the taxis wheelchair-accessible?

All black cabs are wheelchair accessible; they all have ramps available for wheelchair users, but not all types of wheelchairs can be carried.

Can the taxi driver help me from my house to the taxi?

Taxi drivers are only insured to assist you in and out of the cab.

Can I travel outside the borough?

Either your pick up or drop off destination has to be within a London borough.

Can more than one person travel in the taxi with a Taxicard member, does this cost extra?

Taxicard members can take up to four people with them at no extra cost.

How many rides do I have left?

You should be able to obtain your trip balance from the operators at Computer Cab when you make a booking.

There was already a charge on the meter when it arrived

Black cabs have a 'run-in' charge and can start their meters when they accept your booking and are travelling to pick you up. For Taxicard members this run-in charge has been capped at £3.40 or £2.40 in four boroughs.

My card has been lost/stolen, what should I do?

You will need to contact London Councils on 0207 934 9791 to check if there is a spare photograph on file. If a photograph is not on file you will need to send in a photo and a covering note with your name, address and date of birth, to explain that you have lost the card to London Councils.

Please note that if you live in the London borough of Camden there is a replacement charge of £10 for lost, stolen or damaged cards. You will need to contact Camden on 020 7974 6435 to arrange payment and replacement of your card.

My card is damaged can I have a new one?

You will need to send in a photo and a covering note to explain that you have lost the card to London Councils.

The taxi driver did not give my card back to me, what should I do?

You can either call the cab company to see if they can contact the driver or call the Taxicard office on 0207 934 9791.

Can I travel without my card?

To prevent fraud and misuse of Taxicards; members are not permitted to travel without your Taxicard, this includes both the swipe card and your photo ID card.

I have run out of trips, can I have some more?

Usually boroughs will not give additional trips.

What do I do if I change my address, phone number or other details?

If you change your address you must call London Councils to get your address changed, as most information is sent from this office.

I have moved out of the borough can I still use my card?

If you have moved boroughs your current Taxicard is no longer valid. You will have to reapply to your new borough for a new card. You are no longer eligible if you have moved outside of the London boroughs.
