South Woodford Improvements to George Lane

George Lane in South Woodford is undergoing a major facelift between 2009 and 2012 thanks to an investment partnership between the London Borough of Redbridge and Transport for London. £2 million of funding has been allocated for George Lane to improve pedestrian facilities, safety and security.


The first wave of investment sees the installation of nine new CCTV cameras. George Lane is the only shopping centre in Redbridge which has, to date, not been covered by CCTV.


The second phase of investment will bring new paving and lighting, as well as a programme of accessibility improvements such as installing side road entry treatments and tactile paving at crossings.


In 2011/12 further pedestrian improvements will continue, including improving crossing facilities, new cycle parking and improving drainage.
