'Making a difference' explains how London Councils grants funding programme works and puts it into the context of the third sector's increasing involvement in service delivery. We've included some interviews with Londoners who benefited from the services we have funded.
London Councils is one of the largest funders of the voluntary and community sector in London. Each year we invest in more than 400 organisations. The London Councils' investment is provided through grants funded and governed by all 32 London boroughs and the City of London.
The organisations we fund provide a wide range of services such as counselling, legal advice, cultural events and waste reduction programmes but all provide their services on a pan-London or sub-regional basis working across at least two boroughs.
London Councils funding enables Londoners to benefit from voluntary sector services that need to be provided across borough boundaries to make them feasible or cost-effective.
Individual grants range from £5,000 to £500,000 a year. An organisation's funding is usually agreed in principle for a three to four year period but is reviewed every year. London Councils works with funded groups to ensure the money is spent effectively.
