This new report, commissioned by London Councils, looks at the impact of commissioning voluntary and community groups to provide public services in six areas within London. It focuses on developments in health and social care and highlights examples of good practice and common themes.
Commissioning public services is a key plank of government policy with an increasing focus on the voluntary and community sector to play a much wider role in the delivery of these services. New initiatives that give people more control and choice are all founded on principles driven by the need to better respond to service users and require targeted approaches that commissioners are expected to address. Ensuring that commissioning occurs effectively is the first step to ensuring that future public service delivery can address these needs.
