I am an Azerbaijani from Iran and I am a refugee. It is very important for me to build my career up in a new environment and use my knowledge and skills to integrate well in the UK.
I chose to become a volunteer with Refugees into Schools to develop my experience of being within an English school to support my PGCE application. I understood it would help my future career and it actually did.
The project coordinator helped me to increase my confidence and rediscover my abilities regarding teaching in different environments. I also met other refugees from different backgrounds who wanted to make a positive difference in their own life and those of children across London. I have learnt about their cultures and the situations in their home countries.
I consider the UK to be my home now as I have found safety here. Taking part in Refugees into Schools helped me to gain an interview offer at London Metropolitan University.
