Sarah* and her three and a half year old son benefited from the play therapy through parent-child sessions. Sarah's son had been referred to social services and her parenting capacity was in question…

Sarah's story

"I was having a troubled time, suffering from depression. I have had difficult time with my three and a half year old son's behaviour as well because he says things to get attention that are not necessarily true.  Since I started to come to Solace's special play time I can see how my son benefits from it and that it gives me a hope to hold on for my child.

This is a trusted place for me too, not only for my child. I was able to reflect what we were going through and I developed a better relationship with my son. I grew up in the care system and I received therapeutic service myself as a child, but I didn't think it was very helpful. I really like play therapy because you don't ask questions of the children, they can bring whatever they want to bring in; you don't tell them how they are supposed to think or how they are supposed to feel as they did when I was a child.  I wish I could have had something like that when I was a child, because that was what I actually needed...
