I first came to Roma Support Group 10 years ago. I came to the UK as an asylum seeker in order to escape anti-Roma discrimination back in Poland. I heard about the organisation through other members of the Roma community.

Earlier this year I was undergoing treatment for cancer when I was forced to move from my rented accommodation due to its poor condition. We were placed in temporary accommodation seven miles, and a one hour bus ride, from my son and daughters schools. In my state of health I found this journey impossible and their attendance suffered. I went to Roma Support Group for help.

The Education Support Worker fought hard to get us moved closer to my children’s schools. They made phone calls, wrote letters, including to my local MP, and even came and sat in the housing office with me.

My daughter has now been allocated a place at a new school. We have been in to meet her teacher and she is looking forward to starting again in September. My son should also have a place allocated by the start of term.

Without Roma Support Group I would not have been able to do all of this.
