As a volunteer, community activist and consultant in the field of equalities, community leadership, and refugees and asylum seekers’ wellbeing, I got the opportunity to be involved in The Asian Health Agency’s leadership and mental health seminars.

I have been able to use the services and opportunities created by the project to champion equality in delivering mental health service to members of the Black, Asian, minority ethnic and refugee (BAMER) communities.

The leadership training programmes and engagement events enabled me to utilise my experience and knowledge to empower BAMER communities, particularly young people, through mentoring and running creative writing workshops. The medium created by the project also allowed me to engage older refugees in self-help activities to meet their varied needs.
