I am originally from Iraq, where I lectured in English Linguistics at the University of Baghdad and also worked as an editor and news translator for radio and television.

Being a mother has motivated me to get involved with children and young people’s education. I learned about Refugees into Schools through support groups for refugee teachers organised by Employability Forum.

As a refugee, I am able to recognise the needs of refugee learners and it gives me great pleasure to be of assistance to them.

This opportunity has given me confidence to share my experiences with children, who are always appreciative to learn why people have to flee their country. I strongly believe that sharing one’s experiences with others contributes towards a happier and more balanced society.

I feel it is my duty to have a positive impact on our children’s education as a token of gratitude to Britain and to the British people for accepting refugees as part of their society. Alongside my involvement in this project, I teach GCSE and A level Arabic at a secondary school in London and am taking a PGCE/secondary education in English course at Brunel University.
