Ruby's story

I heard that SPID were touring a show called Superhuman and thought that it would be a very interesting experience as the company is site specific, which I think is cool. It was an exciting process during the rehearsals as we were able to work on our characters and develop them over time.

We all started out with a basic idea but with the help of exercises games and tasks, we explored our characters and the dynamics between other characters. We played around to find out what works and what doesn't.

We were all treated like proper adults and we never felt patronised. It was a fun and creative environment to be in and we all felt comfortable which made it really easy for the cast to bond as friends and as a team.

Being in Superhuman was a lot of fun. I learned loads as it was the first time that I was really taught about how to build on different types of characters and make them less one dimensional so that everything you did had a reason or motive.

I thought the idea of moving the benches that the audience sat on was a really amusing twist. It allowed the actors to weave in and around, which, I think, made the people watching feel more involved as they weren't just stuck in one part of the room.

The story was all about this group of kids who think they're invincible because they take steroids and act like gangsters. In the end they're humbled when they lose face in front of their mates. I think the bit that the audience enjoyed the most was this build-up of the hip hop show and witnessing it fall to pieces. This was a lot of fun to perform because we got to do a dance routine and show off our t-shirts with the cool LED lights.

I was really proud to be a part of the show; I had an amazing time with the other kids. It was always a different and new experience every night that we performed it. Being able to perform where we rehearsed meant that we all felt ownership of where we were working. We all had a blast!
