London Councils is offering funding to voluntary and community organisations to provide London with 59 priority services.

To ensure that these services are delivered effectively, we have produced a service specifcation for each one, where we define the number of outcomes which we would like to achieve.

Defining outcomes

Outcomes are the wider changes that are caused by the actions of organisations or individuals.

Outcomes may relate to behaviour, skills, knowledge, attitudes, values, condition, or other attributes.

For example, an organisation providing advice to children may achieve outcomes such as children who receive advice feeling more confident about dealing with problems.

Alternatively, an organisation working with victims of domestic violence may achieve outcomes such as women who have fled domestic violence and have received support which has led to them achieving financial independence.

As outcomes relate to significant changes for people, they tend to be achieved over months or years.

Why are outcomes important?

By outlining what we want each service to achieve in this way

We can:

  • help funded organisations evolve the service they are delivering to meet the changing needs of service users
  • ensure London Councils is flexible in agreeing changes to the service
  • help us clearly demonstrate the difference these services make
