What is Financial Inclusion?

Promoting more effective money management by:

1. Supporting residents to access appropriate financial products

Use Financial Capability resources to raise residents levels of skill and confidence so that they can choose and use financial products that most people take for granted.

The key financial products chosen by the DWP Financial Inclusion Champions initiative:

  • Banking - using a fully transactional bank account
  • Savings schemes
  • Affordable credit
  • Home contents insurance  

2. Improve Financial Capability Skills

With higher levels of Financial Capability, more residents can manage their money effectively by:

  • gaining the skill and confidence to choose and use financial products
  • keeping up to date with any benefit entitlements
  • avoiding debt related to poor budgeting
  • dealing responsibly with debt

3. Dealing Responsibly with Debt

Ensure that residents can get access when needed to Debt Advice that is

  • Free
  • Timely
  • Reliable
  • Confidential
