London Councils European Service is ready, willing and able to help boroughs access European funding programmes that could turn project ideas into reality, says Rachael McCorriston
Europe offers boroughs substantial opportunities to attract funding to help deliver corporate priorities and projects. As well as the two major Structural Funds programmes, the European Social Fund (and Regional Development Fund, there is a wide range of support available for projects focused on the environment, youth, crime, migration, education culture and cooperation with regions across the EU.
This is an exciting time for EU funding, with many programmes going live and issuing "calls for proposals" - the EU equivalent of inviting grant applications. In response to this, the London Councils European Service, which is delivered by GLE, provides substantial support to boroughs.
The European Service provides an early warning system for new opportunities and its dedicated website provides detailed information on all funding opportunities. This includes route maps to guide boroughs through the maze of application processes and practical workshops that go through application forms page by page to ensure that boroughs know their way around the programmes.
