Youth action

One of the most well established young mayoral schemes in England is playing its part in forging democratic partnerships across Europe. Mark Campbell reports.

"It's been a wonderful experience," says young mayor of Lewisham, 16-year-old Justin Cole from Crofton School, Brockley. "I want to become an MP, so I'll be studying government and politics at college. This is a really good scheme and it definitely makes a difference."

His deputy, 15-year-old Naz Ramadan, agrees. "I like being able to have a say in how my borough is run for young people," she enthuses.

Current incumbents Justin and Naz are the fourth generation post-holders of one of the most established young mayoral schemes in the country.
