London Government Directory 2009
The 2009 London Government Directory containing details of London borough councillors, chief officers, MPs, MEPs and other London organisations will be mailed out to councillors and senior council officers in the capital next week. Additional copies are available to order at £35 (£17.50 to London borough councillors and voluntary sector organisations). The 2009 directory data is also available, free, online.

Population report
London Councils has raised concern over figures used in a new report on population trends published by the Halifax. London Councils has argued that the use of the same ONS data by the government to distribute funding underestimates the size of the capital's population.

Funding to tackle violence
London Councils Grants Committee has awarded £720,000 to fund projects that tackle violence against women and children over the next four years. The Women's Resource Centre will receive £600,000 to help train and support smaller organisations, while a further £120,000 will support work with community and voluntary BME organisations.

New Grants chairman
London Councils' Grants Committee elected Councillor Lynne Hillan as its new chairman at its AGM last week. Councillor Hillan is Cabinet Member for Community Services in the London borough of Barnet.

Andy Ludlow Awards 2008
The winners of this year's Andy Ludlow homelessness awards will be announced on 9 October. The awards recognise organisations demonstrating innovative ways to tackle homelessness in the capital. Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government Iain Wright MP and London Councils housing executive member Councillor Jamie Carswell will present the awards.

Council tax consultation
Communities and Local Government has launched consultation on proposals that would require councils to publish measures of efficiency performance alongside council tax notices. Responses are required by 16 October 2008.

Out of hour services
The London borough of Ealing has signed a new Out of Hours and Related Customer Call Handling Framework Contract with Vangent Limited on behalf of London's councils. The new service is available to all London boroughs and other organisations who are members of the London Contracts & Supplies Group.
