Member Development Charter

Kensington and Chelsea has become the latest borough to be awarded the Member Development Charter in recognition of its work to provide councillors with the support, skills and training they need to manage their borough's budgets and services. The award was presented to Kensington and Chelsea leader Cllr Merrick Cockell by Secretary of State Hazel Blears at the monthly meeting of London's borough leaders at London Councils yesterday.

Conference season fringe events

London Councils will be hosting fringe events on the theme of 'Trusting devolution' at each of the major party conferences this month. The events, which will explore the potential gains from more devolution and 'letting go' from Whitehall, will take place within conference secure zones and are all free to attend.

Andy Ludlow awards

The winners of this year's Andy Ludlow homelessness awards will be announced on 9 October. The awards recognise organisations demonstrating innovative and creative ways to tackle homelessness in the capital. Six projects have been shortlisted for prize money totalling £26,000. Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government Iain Wright MP and London Councils housing executive member Cllr Jamie Carswell will present the awards.

Local Authority Business Growth Incentive (LABGI) consultation

A consultation paper regarding reforms to the Local Authority Business Growth Incentives (LABGI) scheme was published on 28 August 2008. The deadline for consultation responses is 20 November 2008. London Councils will submit a response to the consultation and is currently seeking borough's views.
