London Councils summit: early diary note

Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government Hazel Blears will be among the key speakers at London Councils’ summit at the QEII conference centre on 12 July. The theme for this year’s summit is community engagement and preparing for the 2010 borough elections. The event is free to London borough councillors and chief officers and registration will open in May.

Ban the Bag

London Councils is continuing to lead the campaign to ban throwaway shopping bags in the capital and is urging people in London and elsewhere show their support for the London Local Authorities (Shopping Bags) Bill by emailing their local MP. If passed, the private bill deposited by London Councils in November 2007 would bring about a ban on single-use shopping bags in the capital.
