New chief executive starts

John O'Brien takes over as chief executive of London Councils today (10 April). He replaces Martin Pilgrim, who retired after 10 years with the organisation. He joins from the Local Government Association, where he was on secondment from the Department for Communities and Local Government.

Homelessness award launched

Projects that improve services to homeless people, prevent homelessness, or tackle disadvantage caused by homelessness are invited to enter for the Andy Ludlow award.  The award, with prize money of up to £25,000, is run by London Councils and sponsored by the capital’s 33 local councils, London Housing Foundation, the government’s Communities and Local Government department, and Shelter.  The awards are open to housing and social service departments, registered social landlords, NHS trusts, and voluntary organisations in London.
