CPA scores
The Audit Commission has published its annual Comprehensive Performance Assessment Opens in a new window (CPA) scores for 2006. The figures show that London councils are continuing to demonstrate strong improvements with 85 per cent of the capital’s councils scoring either a three or four star rating, the maximum available. Five of the country’s top 10 performing councils are in London while two boroughs, Havering and Waltham Forest, saw a two star improvement in their rating for 2006, a level of improvement matched by only one other council in the country. The CPA results follow publication of the Audit Commission’s Best Value Performance Indicators Opens in a new window last week, which revealed that London residents are happier with their council services than those living elsewhere.
Getting London working
Government services and funding designed to help people get back to work are too rigid and uncoordinated to benefit all Londoners, a joint London Councils and Greater London Enterprise reportfinds. The report says that funding streams such as the Neighbourhood Renewal Funds and European Structural Funds are poorly co-ordinated while mainstream agencies such as Jobcentre Plus and the Learning and Skills Council are often too inflexible to engage effectively with disadvantaged workless people.
