Councils burdened with health costs
Councils in the capital say they are being asked to provide £15 million to cover the costs of NHS services due to the health service’s £120 million deficit forecast for 2006/07. Councils are concerned that proposed reductions in spending by the capital’s primary care trusts will affect health services and could put more pressure on council tax. The figure was revealed at London Councils’ Leaders’ Committee which continues to call for an urgent meeting with the Secretary of State to discuss the concerns.

Grants available now
London Councils is looking to commission voluntary sector organisations to provide services for Londoners. Organisations are invited to submit bids to provide the services as part of London Councils’ £28 million grants programme. Organisations can submit bids to provide services supporting children in crisis, ensuring a lasting legacy from the 2012 Olympic Games across London, tackling homelessness, developing social enterprises, supporting victims of crime and improving links across London’s voluntary sector. A series of information roadshows for voluntary groups will take place in early March.
