London Councils new chief executive

John O'Brien has been appointed as the new chief executive of London Councils. He will take over the role in the spring when the current chief executive Martin Pilgrim retires. Mr O’Brien is currently working at the Local Government Association (LGA), on secondment from the Communities and Local Government department, where he is the director responsible for supporting the work of the independent commission reviewing the LGA’s relationships with member authorities, government and other partners.

Grants budget

A London-wide grants budget of £28,279,960 for 2007/08, proposed by London Councils’Leaders’ Committee on 14 November 2006, has been agreed following its endorsement by the required two-thirds of London councils. London Councils will be hosting a series of events for the voluntary sector across London between 7 and 9 February 2007. The meetings will inform voluntary groups what commissioning means for them, how to submit tenders and the timetable for introducing commissioning across all of London Councils’ grants priority areas.
