Richmond has established the first area in London with a ban on disposable shopping bags. The 'Greener Kew' scheme has signed up 50 independent traders to support the ban and received a grant of £3,000 from the council's Initiatives Fund to encourage shoppers in Kew to adopt reusable bags.
Haringey is encouraging residents to report potholes on local roads via a new 24-hour hotline. Following concerns from local people, the council has already repaired 350 potholes in one month and is investing an additional £200,000 to improve road surfaces across the borough.
Hammersmith and Fulham has received a grant of £100,000 from the John Lyon's Charity to tackle youth and gang-related crime in the borough. The money will fund a new youth worker and help to implement an innovative US-style project for engaging gang members and working in partnership with communities and voluntary agencies to address the issue.

Diseased trees in Islington could be saved from the chop thanks to a new high-tech scanner. The 'Picus' scanner uses sound wave technology to help officers assess the extent of disease inside tree trunks and has already saved at least one tree in the borough for local residents.

Barnet is inviting applications for a new parking permit to allow people carrying out religious duties to park their vehicles in residents' bays and other restricted areas. The initiative aims to improve the accessibility of spiritual support to vulnerable residents in the borough.
