In 2008/09, London Councils’ restructure was concluded, and Cllr Fisher was elected as Chair, giving the Committee a solid base from which to work. 2009/10 has been another year of sustained and consistent delivery of all our transport and environment services and policy activities. The year afforded officers and members alike the opportunity to focus on tackling the issues of greatest importance to London’s boroughs and their residents.
A particular highlight of the last year was the successful Freedom Pass reissue. This complex and challenging project, which was delivered on time and on budget, enabled more than a million older and disabled Londoners to continue to access free public transport.
The last few months of the year were spent preparing for the elections – both local and General. Regardless of outcome, the results will undoubtedly see significant change for local government in London. The biggest challenge for TEC will be continuing to deliver high-quality services and making tough decisions, all against a backdrop of decreases in public spending.
