The London boroughs are responsible for 95% of the capital's road network and have a critical role to play in developing and implementing measures to make London's roads safer. The ALG is spearheading the drive to reduce casualties through the Pan London Road Safety Forum.

The Pan London Road Safety Forum is a partnership of key players, including the 33 London local authorities, the emergency services, the Greater London Authority and Transport for London, who deliver a varied range of measures to improve road safety, including campaigns, education and training.

Every week in London, 80 families see someone they love killed or seriously injured on the capital's roads.  Although the number of people who die or are hurt on London's streets has been falling since the 1980s, there is still a great deal of work to be done. The capital has challenging national casualty reduction targets to meet, including a 40% reduction in the number of people killed and seriously injured, in addition to targets introduced by the Mayor of London to improve safety for vulnerable road users, including pedestrians and cyclists.

This guide provides an introduction to the work of the Pan London Road Safety Forum and its two sub-groups: 'Campaigns and Education' and 'Research and Development', as well as a section on the work of the London Safety Camera Partnership. In addition it gives an update on how London is progressing towards achieving the casualty reduction targets, information on some of the projects and initiatives that we have been involved in so far and work that is planned for the future.
