Rail

The railways are a vital part of London’s transport infrastructure, and are particularly important in parts of London not well served by the underground. 70% of all national rail journeys start or finish in London and Londoners make more rail trips per capita than any other region.

We work closely with Transport for London (TFL) to ensure a strong case is made for London in Government decisions on the funding of rail infrastructure. This includes securing funding for small-scale local improvements as well as the major infrastructure projects, such as Crossrail and Thameslink improvements that are vital to London’s future success.

We also seek to influence Government and TfL policy on rail issues such as the reform of rail franchising and the plans for new rail infrastructure in London such as the Chelsea-Hackney line (Crossrail 2).

One of our major focuses currently is high speed rail and we will be seeking to ensure that the issues of particular concern to boroughs are addressed in the Government proposals for High Speed 2, in particular that the London terminus is effectively integrated into the city’s transport system and that adequate connections are made to High Speed 1.
