
Providing relatively low-cost measures which support cycling and walking can have significant benefits for London. Higher rates of waking and cycling will reduce congestion on the roads, increase capacity on public transport and improve London’s air quality. Promoting more active forms of travel also has significant health benefits for Londoners.
London Councils has welcomed the Mayor’s support for walking and cycling as set out in the Mayor’s Transport Strategy Opens in a new window, and we have worked closely with TfL to ensure that boroughs are fully involved in the implementation of measures such as the Cycle Hire Scheme Opens in a new windowand the Cycle Superhighways Opens in a new window.
