London Councils has responded to the consultation on the draft replacement London Plan. Our response highlights both those areas of the plan which we welcome and the areas where we would like to see changes.

Examples of the areas we welcome include:

  • The reduction in the length of the plan and number of policies
  • The inclusion of a vision and strategy for outer London
  • The emphasis given to climate change in some parts of the plan
  • The objective of increasing housing supply
  • The intention of encouraging patterns of development that reduce the need to travel

Examples of areas where we are raising concerns include:

  • The need for sustainable development to be given a higher profile and addressed throughout the plan
  • The need to ensure that climate change policies are addressed throughout the plan
  • The lack of consideration given to alternative economic scenarios
  • The lack of information on implementation and delivery

The plan will also need to be closely aligned with the Mayor's Transport Strategy and the Mayor's Economic Development Strategy.
