Councillor involvement in planning

In 2007, London Councils, London First and the then Government Office for London, published a good practice guide ‘Connecting Councillors with Strategic Planning Applications’, aimed at borough heads of planning, solicitors and relevant councillors. This made it clear that it is appropriate, and indeed best practice, for councillors to get more involved in the pre-application process and it set out ideas for how this could happen based on what is already working well in London, such as site visits and presentations by applicants.
