London boroughs have consistently been in the vanguard of the devolution debate, backed by a track record that itself demonstrates how devolving power to the local level can deliver better results for Londoners and the UK.
But while London boroughs are proud of their record, they are equally aware of the challenges the capital faces. Within the Developing a manifesto for London document, London borough leaders set out their thoughts on some of the biggest issues facing the capital over the coming years.
The potential offered by London's boroughs to be at the heart of commissioning a wide range of local public services for better and more efficient outcomes for Londoners is, we believe, significant, so boroughs must be given the flexibility and resources they need if they are to realise that potential on behalf of London.
To that end, London Councils has been engaging with key thinkers and policy makers to consider how some of the capital's most pressing challenges might most effectively be tackled, and to develop a Manifesto for Londoners that we aim to publish early in 2010.
