The publication London on Film sets the scene for the work being done to promote filming opportunities in London - one of the most iconic locations in the world. It highlights the role the boroughs and the mayor of London's agency Film London play in encouraging motion pictures to be made across the capital for cinema and television.
The streets of London can be closed to traffic and pedestrians to allow films to be made, under new powers granted to the capital's transport bosses. The London Local Authorities and Transport for London Act 2008, promoted by London Councils and Transport for London, came into force in September. It permits roads to be sealed off while films, television programmes and commercials are shot. Closing streets while films are being made will reduce traffic disruption while the cameras are rolling and gives the public a chance to watch the cast and crew at work.
