Local Government Resource Review: Consultation Response

The Local Government Resource Review (LGRR) Consultation Paper Opens in a new window was published on 18 July 2011. The consultation paper sets out the Government’s proposals regarding the design and implementation of a national business rate retention scheme.

The main consultation paper is supported by a series of eight technical papers Opens in a new windowsetting out the detail underlying the proposals. These papers were published on 19 August.

London Councils' response to the consultation proposals focuses on the complexity of the business rate retention proposals and the transfer of financial risk to local authorities without providing adequate financial incentive/reward. It also notes our disappointment at the lack of additional financial incentives to form business rate pools.

The consultation closed on 24 October 2011.
