Our response to the October 2009 consultation on the reform of council housing finance.
Summary:
- We welcome Government’s decision to dismantle the current council housing finance system.
- We also welcome Government’s commitment to a devolved housing finance settlement, which will allow Councils to make better and more locally-based decisions, in a more transparent and open way.
- We welcome the cessation of housing subsidy surpluses being remitted back to the Treasury
- We would recommend that Government, as a statement of intent to the sector, uplifts management, maintenance and major repairs allowances for 2010/11 to address the systemic underfunding in London.
