London Councils welcomes the broad direction of the government’s proposals to create opportunities for greater democratic accountability for health at a local level, to encourage further integration between health and social care and to transfer responsibility for public health to local government. If the government’s reforms enable these aspirations to be achieved then we would strongly support these.
London local government has a strong track record of developing closer working with the NHS to improve outcomes for patients and service users and achieve efficiencies.
However, there are a number of aspects of these proposals where London Councils has concerns or wishes to raise issues. These are addressed in the response available to download below.
