London Councils welcomes the opportunity to express our views as part of the review of future funding of care and support. This review takes place at a critical time for local authorities as they face the challenge of delivering high quality social care services, whilst coping with financial challenges and growing demographic pressures.
It will be crucial for any new system to have sufficient resources. London as a region has specific social care needs, costs and pressures and therefore a new system must reflect all of these factors. Any funding system that is created must ensure London as a region is adequately funded so that it is able to continue to deliver high quality social care services for Londoners.
A new system must focus on improving both efficiency and quality of care. London Councils recommends that the Commission should support three key initiatives to enhance satisfaction and reduce cost pressures – personalisation, prevention and closer integration between health and social care.
