River Basin Management Plan

The Thames River Basin river basin management Opens in a new windowplan was developed by the Environment Agency in line with the Water Framework Directive (WFD). The WFD requires all countries in the European Community to manage the water environment to consistently high standards.

London Councils was involved in the development of the draft management plan through representation on the Thames River Basin Liaison Panel, a stakeholder panel composed of representatives of all the interests impacting on the use and amenity of the water bodies (including groundwater) within the river basin. In 2009 we welcomed the draft Plan, but drew attention to some practical issues with its implementation. You can download a copy of our response to the draft Plan below.
